The following chart gives a colour-coded look at the relationship between philosophy, ontology (the study of being), epistemology (the study of meaning), agnosticism, and theism. I highlight the idea that philosophical doubt (agnosticism) can be found throughout the wide and varied spectrum from science to belief. (Please note that the Western religions of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are included in the catch-all category “Theism.” Other types of Western and Middle Eastern thought, as well as Eastern religions, are listed separately.)
